the 5th CEGLOC Conference

About the event

Autonomous learners are said to take responsibility for their own learning, reflect on the processes they go through, and make increasingly informed decisions toward reaching their own goals. Just as teachers play a crucial role in facilitating and scaffolding the successful development of learner autonomy, so too do student-teacher and student-student interaction. Other important dimensions in nurturing autonomous and interactive learning practices may vary according to learners’ interests, needs, resources, and control over the content of their learning. What works and doesn’t work in developing autonomous and interactive learning? Why? What questions do researchers, teachers, and learners have about the development of learner autonomy? And what approaches may researchers, teachers, and learners take when engaging with the development of autonomous and interactive processes across a range of language learning environments, life stages, and learning relationships?

This one-day conference aims to provide a platform to share ongoing research, explore pedagogic and learning practices, and exchange ideas as well recent experiences concerning autonomous and interactive practices in relation to foreign language education. Topics include (but are not limited to) instructor and student roles, learner goal-setting and learning processes, pedagogic practices, teacher and learner reflection, learner projects, learning products, learner literacies (creative, critical, digital, and so on), assessments and feedback (including portfolios), students’ social interactions, learning outside the classroom, and other related practices.

This conference includes two types of sessions:
1. Traditional presentation-based sessions (see lower left box - Presentations)
2. Collaborative sessions for students and teachers to discuss and reflect on their experiences of learning (see lower right box - Workshops).
