Online Teaching Sharing Event (2)

About the event

In October (day TBD), the CEGLOC FD Committee will hold a one-hour swap session of ideas and experiences over Zoom, a sequel to the first similar event held last June. All of us are still grappling with some of the limitations and potentials of online language teaching, so the objective of this get together is to facilitate a mutual exchange of strategies and tips that we have accumulated so far. We will separate participants according to Japanese or English language preference into small breakout rooms for sharing and discussion, and then reconvene together as a large group.

Program

9-9:10 Introduction To facilitate the process of dividing into small groups, please indicate on your display name your language preference for discussion with a (J) for Japanese or an (E) for English, e.g. "(E) Markus Rude"

9:10-9:35 Small group discussion in breakout rooms. Participants should briefly address (1-2 minutes each) any or all of the following questions:

1) What do you (structurally) do? (e.g. Zoom, Teams, Manaba, tools, activities)
2) What have you learned?
3) What would you like to tell other teachers (or students)?
4) What is your remaining biggest problem? Introductions will be followed by a short group discussion. Two representatives will be chosen to summarize.

9:35-9:45: Large group panel will reconvene (bilingual English-Japanese). An oral representative from each group will point out highlights of the discussion (1-2 minutes each) and a “chat” representative will type the highlights.

9:45-10:00 (continued) common session of all; open discussion focused on remaining problems and summarizing most important points. This event is open to all CEGLOC language teachers, part-time or full-time. We will not be able to provide tutorials for online platform technical difficulties, but hope for a robust discussion of tips and ideas. We are awaiting your participation and ideas!
